Perhaps a Bottle of Rose Instead

Perhaps a Bottle of Rose Instead

Loved how the sunlight came through these mostly empty bottles.  What fun trying to capture the light.
Currently this is at the Enrichment Center Gateway Gallery, Winston Salem until Sept 14, 2018.

Cherries

Cherries

Years ago I painted a watercolor of cherries named Cheery Cherries for my dear Aunt Lu who was battling cancer.  She was such a wonderful part of my life.   I revisited the composition in oils this time which, while painting so many years later, still evoked so many memories of her.
This painting still on display at the Enrichment Center Gateway Gallery in Winston Salem.

Backyard Rhododendron

Backyard Rhododendron

A year ago, I painted this in plein air in my backyard.  It's the largest work I've done to date.  Fun!
This is also in a show at the Stokes Arts Council in Danbury, NC which will end Sept 3, 2018.

Yorkshire Morning

Yorkshire Morning

I painted a small version of this last year and always wanted to do a larger one.   Here's a 12x16 version finished recently for the Stokes Art Council show for the month of August.  This was painted from a British friend's shared photo.

The French Bell Shop

The French Bell Shop
This was painted from a photo I took while in France. It seems that the French Country houses all have bells, so of course... The French Bell Shop.

Daffodil Hues

Daffodil hues
I painted these daffodils while in full bloom this past Spring.  I’ve tried painting them before but this time I saw greys and blues in them. Adding the cools to the warm yellows seemed to help.  These were daffodils and paper whites.

Old Antibes

Old Antibes
Visited Antibes, France after my youngest daughter had finished up her studies there in 2016.  Antibes is on the French Riviera not too far from Cannes.  I loved our stay in a 300 year old house that had one room per floor.  So charming!  My girls and I went for lunch at Bacon on the Caps d'Antibes. We decided to walk back.   Along the walk were copies of impressionists painting looking from Cap D'Antibes back to Old Antibes.  With a little research I found that Monet and others had come there because of the beautiful colors in the air and water.  They must have been standing where the art is mounted as they painted. This is my go at the view.

Across from Cannes

Across from Cannes

We visited Antibes, France two years ago and took a boat to this island where there was once a prison. Somethings wrong here.  This was the scene from the beach looking back at Cannes.  The colors in the French Rivera are so beautiful with blues, pinks and lavenders.
This will be on display at my show at the Apple Gallery at Stokes Art Council beginning Aug 1, ending Aug 31, 2018 with an reception on Aug 10 at 5:30-8:00 pm.
The painting is NFS until show is over.

Grapes and Hollyhocks

Grapes and Hollyhocks

I loved all the Hollyhocks in France! I guess they grow like weeds since you see them everywhere. This was painted from a 2014 photo from Le Vieux Couvant where I took a painting trip with 18 new friends and Dreama Tolle Perry.  This was painted recently from a photo and painted on stretched canvas.  Just trying everything out to see what I like to paint on the most.  I painted a similar one on site but can't seem to part with that one just because of the memories it brings back.
These paintings are in a show right now which is why they are NFS.

Reynolda Geese

Reynolda Geese  -

I painted this from a visit to Reynolda Gardens.  It's only about a mile from the house and I loved this nature scene in the early spring.

Peach Basket

Peach Basket

I painted this from a trip to Bluffton's Farmer's Market last summer.  It will be available at the Enrichment Center show in Winston Salem that opens Friday 7/26/2018.  I am the guest artist for their Culinary show, so my works will be centered around fruits and vegetables.  I'll be posting more for that show.  I also have a one-person show starting August 1, 2018 at the Apple Gallery at the Stokes County Arts Council.  Since these two shows are running at the same time, I will have a variety of my other paintings at the Apple Gallery.  More to come.

The Belle Shop -

This painting is of a bell shop in France.  I loved how all the French doorways have some type of unique bell outside and when I saw this arrangement at a shop, I just had to take a photo and paint it.
